Joseph J. Busch, Jr. MD

ONCOLOGICAL RADIOLOGIST

Dr. Busch has read more than 15,000 mpMRI scans and performed more than 1,700 MRI in-bore targeted biopsies over the last 11 years.

Nationally recognized and respected in his field, Dr. Joseph J. Busch, Jr. is a board-certified Radiologist specializing in Interventional and Diagnostic Radiology at the Busch Center in Alpharetta, Georgia. 

With over 40 years of experience, Dr. Busch leads the charge in diagnostic and interventional treatment options for prostate issues, particularly Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) and Prostate Cancer. He has helped advance the treatment of diseased prostate tissue by bringing focal treatments and whole gland ablative options to patients at the Busch Center. 

Trained by the world’s leading experts, Dr. Busch has been interpreting mPMRI prostate scans for more than 10 years and has been studying mPMRI since 2009. Dr. Busch is trained to perform MRI (in-bore targeted) guided biopsies and is an active advocate of ablative treatment options. His approach focuses on quality mPMRI prostate scans and in-bore targeted prostate biopsies, which leads to a more accurate diagnosis. Dr. Busch utilizes these methods and treats his patients with the TULSA procedure to ensure a customized treatment plan. 

Dr. Busch attended medical school at the University of Tennessee where he also completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology. Dr. Busch is a member of the International Prostate MR Working Group and has lectured and instructed mPMRI for the Radiological Society of North America and Johns Hopkins. He is also a member of the European Society of Urological Radiology and the International Cancer Imaging Society.

Prior to open Busch Center, Dr. Busch was one of the founders of Diagnostic Radiology Consultants now known as Prime Imaging in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Dr. Busch has also immensely enjoyed traveling nationally and internationally speaking on the field of Diagnostic Radiology and Diagnostic PET/CT, including delivering the keynote at the Stanford University Molecular Symposium in 2009. Through the years, Dr. Busch has written several renowned publications and literatures.

Dr. Busch has been a leading example, using his knowledge to serve the medical community in various organizations and associations including Chattanooga Regional Oncology Association, Clinical Advisor for A.P.S. Alliance and Sunhealth Alliance Imaging Advisory Committee. He has served DRC in such capacities as Medical Director of Diagnostic PET/CT of Chattanooga and Director of Diagnostic Imaging Center.

He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and earned his medical doctorate at the acclaimed University of Tennessee in Memphis. He completed his internship at USPHS Hospital in New Orleans, where he was General Medical Officer, and Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. After serving as a general medical officer in the USPHS at Merchant Marine facilities and Tennessee National Guard M.A.S.H. unit, Dr. Busch returned to the esteemed University of Tennessee in Memphis to finish his residency in Diagnostic Radiology and was honored as Chief Radiology Resident. He was in the first class to complete their Diagnostic Radiology residency.

Kathy Busch

Kathy Busch has worked in Radiology for thirty-eight years. She has worked with Cancer patients for more than 20 years. In 2010, she trained with Dr. Barentsz and his technologist on how to perform mpMRI (Multi-Parametric MRI) of the Prostate and assistant with MRI inbore targeted biopsies of the prostate. In 2015, Kathy started the IPCE company to assist prostate patients and their families with their prostate journey. She has traveled to Europe (Netherland, Germany and UK) with patients for advanced imaging and treatment of their prostate cancer. She has been the tour guide, chauffeur, communication and caregiver during the Europeon trips. She attends every meeting possible to learn the new treatments, imaging techniques for prostate cancer. She is a member of the International Cancer Imaging Society, European Society of Urology , RSNA. She attends and speaks at Prostate cancer support groups. She has spoken in Russia, Germany, Vietnam and the USA.

Roland has a passion not only for diagnosing, but also educating patients and their families that options are available. Roland started his career as an X-ray/CT Tech in 1983. He moved into MRI technology in 1989, when MRI magnets were a “true tunnel experience” and often took over an hour per exam. Over the years Roland has had the opportunity to be involved with the rapid evolution of MRI technology, especially the recent advancements in prostate imaging. Joining Dr. Joe Busch in 2010, Roland became involved with helping raise awareness for men’s health.

Jessica brings her 10 years of experience in surgery L&D and two years Nursing Labor and Delivery to Busch Center. In addition, she has two years of lab and specimen processing along with five years of blood and blood component production experience. She and her husband, a firefighter and Army National Guard Soldier, have been married for 12 years and have two beautiful children together: nine-year-old Travis and seven-year-old Adelai. Jessica enjoys doing crafts and loves being a mother.

Whether in healthcare or hospitality, Kerri strives to serve everyone with excellence. Kerri began her career in healthcare in 1991 as a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant. Throughout her career, she has held various staff and management positions, and has always had a passion for the personal care of her patients. Her work motto has always been to treat others the way you would want to be treated. Her desire to treat people well has also been demonstrated by her love for hospitality.
