Screening Whole Body Diffusion (MRI)
What is Screening Whole Body Diffusion (MRI)?
In the world of prostate cancer, Dr. Busch uses Whole Body Diffusion with men who have high-grade prostate cancer to determine if the prostate cancer has spread outside the prostate itself.
As its name suggests, the Whole Body Diffusion (MRI) examines the entire body, including the brain, head and neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis and the cervical, thoracic, lumbar and sacrum/coccyx spines in many planes. This allows Dr. Busch to examine the whole body, including organs not commonly scanned, but at-risk for cancer, including the liver, pancreas, and kidneys.
Why is Screening Whole Body Diffusion MRI the best method?
It has been proven that MRI screenings provide clearer, more detailed and more accurate images than other methodologies, such as X-Rays, CT scans, bone scans and ultrasounds. This means Dr. Busch is expertly able to locate even the smallest areas of cancer throughout the body with no needles, no contrast, and no radiation. This early detection leads to better outcomes for Busch Center patients.
What to Expect
You are then taken to the MRI suite where you’re greeted by our expert MRI technologist who asks just a few questions before beginning the scan. This screening is simple, quick and painless.
You lay on your back on the MRI table which slides you into the MRI machine. Our MRI machine has a 70 cm opening – one of the largest available – and ear plugs are provided with your choice of music playing, making the experience as relaxing as possible.
The MRI technologist is able to see, hear and speak with you, using a two-way intercom during the entirety of the MRI.
After the MRI, Busch Center’s Visible Radiologist sits with you and your loved ones to review the scan, explain findings, and recommend next steps – eliminating the waiting and worrying.
Busch Center’s expert staff are here for you every step of your health journey.
